Australia
World-class universities. Post-study work rights. A real pathway to permanent residency.
Australia is consistently among the top choices for Kenyan students — and for good reason. It combines globally ranked universities with strong post-graduation employment pathways, a welcoming multicultural environment, and one of the most structured post-study work visa frameworks in the world. Students who complete a bachelor's degree or higher in Australia are eligible for a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485), giving them two to four years to work and build their career before exploring residency options.
For Kenyan students specifically, the nursing, IT, engineering and business pathways are particularly well-matched — these are skills-shortage areas in Australia, which creates both employment opportunities and immigration advantages after graduation.
Malta
English-speaking Europe. Lower entry requirements. Affordable tuition with EU-standard qualifications.
Malta is the hidden gem of the European study market for Kenyan students — particularly those who want a European-standard qualification without the higher IELTS requirements or tuition costs of the UK. As an English-speaking EU member state, Malta offers degrees recognised across Europe and beyond, at a significantly lower cost than comparable UK or Australian institutions.
Malta is also one of the most accessible destinations for students with study gaps or slightly lower academic results. Institutions here tend to evaluate applications more holistically, and the English-language environment means no additional language barrier. It's a destination we recommend frequently for special-case students who want a credible, internationally recognised degree.
Canada
Welcoming immigration policy. Post-graduation work permits. A clear pathway to permanent residency.
Canada has become one of the most popular study destinations for Kenyan students, and it's easy to understand why. The country has a clear, structured post-graduation work permit (PGWP) that allows graduates of most Canadian institutions to work for up to three years after completing their programme. Combined with the Express Entry immigration system, Canada offers one of the most achievable routes to permanent residency for international graduates.
Canadian colleges and universities also have a wide range of programmes at various academic levels, many of which accept strong Statement of Purpose essays and proof of funds in place of high academic averages. This makes Canada a good option for students with moderate grades who can present a compelling case for their goals and financial stability.
United Kingdom
Globally recognised degrees. Shorter course durations. A 2-year post-study work visa.
The United Kingdom offers some of the most internationally recognised degrees in the world, and a major recent change makes it more accessible than it has been in decades — the Graduate Route visa, introduced in 2021, allows international students who complete a bachelor's degree or higher at a UK university to stay and work in the UK for two years (three years for PhD graduates) after graduation. This is a significant pathway that didn't exist before.
UK undergraduate degrees are typically three years (compared to four in most other countries), and master's programmes are generally one year — meaning lower total tuition cost for equivalent qualifications. For Kenyan students who are funding their own studies, this time efficiency is a real financial advantage.
United States
The world's most recognised degrees. OPT work authorisation. World-leading research opportunities.
The United States is home to the most globally recognised universities in the world, and a US degree carries brand weight that opens doors internationally. For students aiming for careers in technology, engineering, research, or business — particularly with ambitions in global corporations — a US degree is frequently the most valuable credential available.
The Optional Practical Training (OPT) programme allows international STEM graduates to work in the US for up to three years after completing their degree, providing a pathway to US work experience and potential employment sponsorship. The process is more complex than other destinations, and financial documentation requirements are rigorous — but for the right student profile, the return on investment is significant.
